Democrats Colin Allred and Frederick Douglass Haynes III were projected to win two Dallas-area congressional races Tuesday, keeping Texas’ 33rd and 30th Congressional Districts under Democratic control. CBS News projected Allred’s victory over Republican Patrick Gillespie and projected Haynes’ victory over Republican Everett Jackson in reports published at 7:23 p.m. and 7:28 p.m. CST, respectively.

The results would return Allred to the U.S. House and send Haynes, a longtime Dallas pastor, to Congress for the first time. Both contests were held under congressional boundaries redrawn by Texas lawmakers in 2025. The media projections are not officially certified election results.

Allred Returns To Congress In Redrawn District

Allred represented Texas’ 32nd Congressional District from 2019 to 2025 before his unsuccessful 2024 U.S. Senate challenge against U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). He later entered the 2026 Senate race but shifted to the newly drawn 33rd District, which lies entirely in Dallas County.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Allred defeated U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson (D-Texas) in the May 26 Democratic primary runoff. Unofficial results available at the time showed Allred receiving 11,307 votes, or 53.92%, compared with Johnson’s 9,663 votes, or 46.08%.

Allred will succeed U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Texas), who did not seek reelection after the redistricting plan removed his Fort Worth political base from District 33, according to CBS News. Gillespie previously lost general-election bids for the district in 2022 and 2024.

Haynes Wins Following Church Polling-Site Dispute

Haynes, senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, was projected to defeat Jackson in District 30. The district includes southern Dallas County and a portion of Tarrant County. Haynes will succeed U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), who left the House race to seek her party’s Senate nomination, CBS News reported.

The church became a campaign issue after the Dallas County Republican Party objected to its use as a voting location while its pastor appeared on the ballot. Jackson protested outside the church on October 11, raising concerns about a potential conflict of interest, as The Dallas Express previously reported.

In subsequent original reporting, The Dallas Express reviewed video from an October 25 church service showing Haynes directing congregants toward voting at the church and inviting candidates to the front of the sanctuary.

Projections Await Official Results

CBS News projected both victories Tuesday evening, but those projections are separate from the state’s vote canvass and certification.

The Texas Secretary of State maintains an election results portal where voters can review reported returns as election officials continue processing results.
