A man on bike threw an object at a Tesla and then lunged at the driver with a knife during a road rage incident in Washington Township, Gloucester County, police said.

The incident began on Sunday after a man on a bike, identified as William H. Greene, 56, of Washington Township, threw an object at the side of a Tesla, the car’s driver told police.

The Tesla driver then stopped in the area of Wilson Road and Bryant Road and rolled down his window to confront Greene, who became increasingly aggressive, according to police.

The confrontation escalated to the point where Greene lunged at the driver with a knife and got his hand and knife through the driver’s side window.

The Tesla then tried to drive away, striking Greene’s bike and causing him to fall to the ground.

The Tesla driver was able to accelerate and get away.

A nearby witness “confirmed seeing the bicyclist approach the vehicle, spit on it, and engage in a heated confrontation before the driver accelerated away,” police said.

Greene was taken into custody and a knife was recovered.

Greene was charged with third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault and terroristic threats.

Greene remained in Salem County Jail as of Tuesday.
